Hard hats, it turns out, don’t just protect heads — they also make good art pieces.
Sachse Construction, a Detroit contractor, partnered with three local artists and set up a charity auction featuring one-of-a-kind helmets created for the project, according to a press release from the builder.
The helmets are original pieces of artwork that feature collaged designs, multi-colored faces and striking patterns.
For each helmet sold, the proceeds will be equally divided between three partner charities:
- Downtown Boxing Gym, an after-school program and athletic center that serves youth across Detroit and nearby suburbs.
- Junior Achievement of Southeastern Michigan, a nonprofit that focuses on teaching young people about financial literacy and career readiness.
- The Konnection, a Detroit-based mentoring program that aims to improve school performance and attendance for students through afterschool programs, field trips and career exploration.
The helmets are publicly displayed at Sachse’s office in downtown Detroit, and interested collectors can bid online for the pieces. The auction closes on Dec. 8 at 3 p.m.
“We’re excited to partner with these talented artists to support students through the power of art,” said Todd Sachse, CEO of Sachse Construction, in the release.
